Some former mariners which were involved in the mine-sweeping operation in the port of Chittagong conducted by Special Expedition-12 of the Soviet Navy in the Bay of Bengal during 1972-1974 met for the first time with members of the Bangladeshi Liberation War Academy Trust. The participants recalled the events of that important historical period, talked about the heroism of the soldiers and noted the key role of the USSR in winning Bangladesh’s independence and restoring its infrastructure. Speakers also mentioned the upcoming 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and the decisive contribution of Soviet people to the victory over fascism.
Before saying good-bye, the participants proceeded to an exchange of souvenirs. An album with archival photographs and a digitized copy of the documentary film on demining the Chittagong port were remitted to the Russian side.
This event was organized with support of the RCSC in Dhaka and the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh.
